Vaikka keli huononikin toisena päivänä, sarjan tulokkaat jatkoivat testaamista saderenkailla loppuun saakka. Lopulta Robertas Kupcikas nappasikin testien kierrosmääräkuninkuuden.

Lehdistötestaajista vain Tekniikan Maailman Robert Koistinen pääsi ajamaan suunnitellussa aikataulussa. Toisena päivänä olosuhteet iltapäivästä olivat erittäin haastavat, joten turvallisuussyistä toisen päivän testit siirrettiin myöhemmäksi.

Kauden avauskilpailussa Latvian Biekernikissä tilanne onkin äärimmäisen jännittävä. Riian lähellä sijaitseva rata on ollut Porsche Sprint Challenge NEZ-sarjan näyttämönä viimeksi kaudella 2019, eli se on osalle kuljettajista uusi tuttavuus. Radan luonne on tekninen ja aika-ajon merkitys tuloksiin on merkittävä.

Tästä lähtee liikkeelle kausi 2022!

The season opening test session was organised during 4.-5.4. at Porsche Ring in Pärnu, Estonia.

In the event, the new 992 GT3 Cup cars that were ordered after the test session in August 2021 were delivered to the proud new owners.

The cold spring weather in the usually sunny Pärnu limited the track time. Nonetheless, the test days provided the opportunity for the drivers to get familiar with the new cars. Also, the newcomers of the series got to run important test laps with their 991.2 cars.

In this test session there were no timed laps, but drivers racked their laps nevertheless. The audience observed the different styles and programs of the teams and drivers. During the first day, there was plenty to see as the weather was reasonable. The second day was a shorter one because of rapidly increasing snowfall.

Nikolas Pirttilahti, the Finnish Junior Program Driver of Relaa Racing, enjoyed the test session with a total of 100 laps, and reportedly got comfortable with his 991.2 generation car. The test was thorough, as it should be, because the target for the young Finn is to finish in Top 3, and win the team championship with his teammate and -boss Raimo Niemi.

Despite the grim condition, the newcomers racked up the laps during the second day while gaining excessive experience in wet weather tires. In the end, it was Robertas Kupcika from Porsche Lithuania who ended up with the most laps of the test session.

The press was also present, but due to the conditions only Robert Koistinen from the Finnish magazine Tekniikan Maailma managed to squeeze in a test drive. The remaining press tests will be organised at a suitable date in the near future.

What next? The season opener is already in April, 29.-30.4. at the BaTCC DeWalt Grand Prix, Bikernieki in Latvia. Bikernieki was a venue in 2019 so there is some catching up for the drivers to do - for some it’s a new track altogether. As the track is narrow and technical, already the qualifying will set the tone for the weekend.

So, this is where the season 2022 begins. Tests are done and now it’s a matter of preparing for the first race - see you there!
